The California DUI Lawyers Association (CDLA) names its annual conference as well as its most prestigious annual award after Edward Kuwatch.

Each year CDLA presents the Edward Kuwatch Memorial Award to recognize an attorney who made the greatest contribution and the most significant impact to the DUI field. The award was established to honor the memory of Edward “Fast Eddy” Kuwatch, a prominent attorney and founder of the California DUI Deuce Defenders now called the CDLA. Edward Kuwatch was an outstanding leader within the legal profession and in the community.

Edward Kuwatch passed away on February 26, 2005 at the young age of 58. A View Nam Veteran who served on the USS Sea Leopard as a Communications Operator from 1965 to 1971, he was regarded as California’s foremost expert on DUI Law and an author of numerous California Law Books. In 2002, he ran for the office of California Attorney General.

The Edward Kuwatch Memorial Award award carries on his tradition of service and and recognizes a lawyer who provides exceptional service to the field of DUI & DMV Defense.

The Edward Kuwatch Memorial Award will be presented at the Annual Awards Luncheon to be held on Saturday, August 12 2023 at the 2023 Annual Kuwatch Conference held at the Omni Los Angeles hotel.
